TURUA. ROADING SCHEME. During the past week a steady supply of metal has been received at Gumtown Road for the Turua Southern Area reading scheme. A puntload has; arrived daily, and has been spread on Gumtown Road, the first layer so far having been spread over about 24 chains. A certain proportion of "fines" and chips is also arriving, and is being dumped alongside the road ready for use when it is bitumen sealed. ' Since the county council decided '.o te<t the contractor’s crusher it has, while being supplied by council employees and operated by the contractor,' been crushing about 30 yards of metal daily. If the contractor under these favourable circumstances cannot make his machine do over 40 yards a day lie will not be able to fulfil his contract and it will be terminated. A second punt has been on the job since Wednesday last, so it is now hoped that a load of metal will arrive by every tide. As it only takes about three hours to unload the punt with the excellent facilities provided it is possible co get in and out on the same tide. KEREPEEHI. CHURCH. At the December meeting of the Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ Association and Citizen’s Progressive League the matter of the erection of a church was brought up. and a small committee was appointed to go into the question. ' The ministers of religion visiting the township were asked their views on the suitability of an undenominational church. The opinion of these men was that in the long run an undenominational church building would not prove a success, and that each denomination desired to have its own church.
The feeling of the residents of Kerepeehi, as voiced at the last meeting of the association, was that by a union of all denominations sufficient funds could be raised to build such a place of worship as would oe a credit to Kerepeehi. This would meet rhe needs of the district for many years to come, and should be preferable to a number of small buildings. No denomination had such a following in Kerepeehi as would permit it to finance the erection of a church without appealing to the general public, and once this was done the public would be reluctant to subscribe again for another church. . The .association finally decided to call a public meeting to discuss the ■ matter on such a date as would permit the various ministers cf religion to be present.
