N.Z. CHILLED BEEF.
THE TRIAL SHIPMENT. The machinery in connection with the Linley process of chilling beef has-been installed at the Meat Export Company's works at Ngahuaranga, and also on the steamer Kent, and trial runs have proved satisfactory.: Slaughtering of cattle for chilling under this process will begin at the Ngahauranga works next week, and the chilling will'be under the personal supervision of Mr Linley. The chilled quarters will be transferred to the steamer at intervals. The original intention was .to make a trial shipment of 1000 quarters, ami the only question troubling soma of those interested in the trade is whether a continuous supply of the right sort of cattle can be relied upon. More attention has been given to the breeding of dairy cattle than beef cattle in recent years, and the low prices ruling for frozen beef have not provided any incentive to breeders. If prices advance breeders 1 will .soon find it profitable .to turn their attention to beef cattle.
