OBITUARY.

MRS. J. J- GOONAN. M Quite a gloom was cast over the district when it was known that Mrs J. Goonan, of Waihi, had passed away ; very suddenly about 5 P-m. on Friday.! last at ■ the residence of her | mother, Mrs J. Corbett, at Hikutaia, where, with her family of four little | ones, the deceased was spending thb I holidays. Although deceased was in J failing health fpr some time, her; end , wa; entirely unexpected, so that the blow, coming as it did, was rendered s more severe. All medical aid was J unavailing, a .stroke of paralysis in- J tervening about 3 p.m., proving thenyl sad prelude to the end. As Miss . Julia Corbett the deceased was de- fl setvedly popular in Hikutaia, where J she was the life and soul of everyfl function whose object was the better- | ment of the place or the promotion of J its social enjoyment. At all times j bright, cheery, and most kindly, she fl made hosts of friends, who even nmrl can scarcely realise their loss. Cu.tß off prematurely at the age of 38, Goonan leaves a husband and four J young children, as well as a mother 1 ar.d several brothers and sisters to j mourn their loss. Deep and sincere 4 sympathy is extended to the mourners in the time of their sad bereavement. ■ . /j The remains of Mrs Goonan were laid to rest in ,the Omahu Cemeteiy on Svnday afternoon, when a very large number of settlers and friepds from the district and from Paeipa an 1 Thames attended to -pay the last tribute of respect. The solemn ser-,.J vice at the graveside was conducted'!?! by Fa ther Dignan. who was assisted J by the priests from Paeroa an l Waihi.
