DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. PICNIC. The Sports Club held its fourth annual picnic on New Year's Day, ami a most enjoyable day was spent by everyone, especially the children. The ground was in perfect order, the native bush .shelter making it an ideal spot for any outside gathering, and the Turua people are looking forward to having a recreation ground second to none. Ample refreshments were provided, and no praise is teo high for the ladies’ committee, the members of which ensure tl.e success of everything they take part in. A long programme of children’s races was gone through, everybody being catered for from youngsters of four years old to the old married ladies. A dance was held in the evening, and everyone went home well satisfied with a very pleasant day's outing. The club ha,s done a great deal of work on the ground since last season, and arrangements are being made to have everything, in first-class order for the sports meeting on January 26, which event promises to be a greater success than ever.
