A number of mysterious cases addressed for Wanganui, which were ~ deposited in the statipn platform about 7 o’clock one morning recently, were the subject of lively comment by a small band of onlookers, who were obviously and perhaps painfully aware of the contents. Many of the ecses, according to the inscription thereon, merely contained benzine, but perhaps the. fact that a police officer was keeping a sharp eye on the consignment aroused -their suspicions and led them to believe that enclosed in the case was a spiritmore calculated “to make glad the heart of man.” As it happened, their suspicion was quite justified, for the> cases contained altogether some 250' odd bottles of whisky which ; was bound for Wanganui, where it jis to be put for sale by auction. “ Why don’t you sell it here?” was the repeated call of several present. It is understood, that according to the labels the bottles of whisky are of several well known brands. The department, however, is not prepared guarantee the contents^ —Tau* marufiui Press.
