Marshall), who, on Saturday afternoon, received the following letter, dated December 20, from the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Works and Railways :— “With reference to the representations made to me recently regarding the site for the central station at Paeroa, I have the honour to ip form you that the alternative sites have been closely investigated by the engineers of the working railways and the Public Works Department, and the report of those officers indicates clearly that the site in the vicinity of Moore Street is the most suitable, having regard to the general public convenience and the present and prospective requirements of the Railway Department, and in anticipation of the traffic that will reed to be dealt with when the Paeroa-Pokeno and Tauranga railways are completed. Having regard to all these circumstances, it has been decided to locate the new station on the site recommendd by the engineers. Tn view of the importance of the matter to the town of Paeroa, as well as to the Railway Department’s future operations, I hope the decision arrived at will receive the concurrence of your council.” It is thought that the site selected will meet with general approbation, and the ratepayers’ hearty thanks are due to His Worship for his enterprise and efforts in getting a definite answer from .the Government so promptly and satisfactorily.
