WORKS IN THE COUNTY.
ENGINEERS REPORT. The Ohinemuri County engineer (Mr E; Shaw) presented the following report' at the meeting of the council yesterday:— “Proposals- were sent for approval to the Public Works Department for forming and metalling portion of Deam’s- Road Waitawheta; also for metalling’ portion of Waitawheta Road and- specifications for the supply ahd delivery of metal on PaeroaWaihi Road (under main, roads). “Tenders • are' 'called for ■ the supply and delivery of 1956 cubic yards of metal on Frankton Road, Waihi; supply and delivery of metal on PaeroaTe Aroha Road at Waitoki; and also for supplying 100 cubic yards of metal on 1 Paeroa iWaihi Road, all of which close at 2 p.m. this day. “Authority has been received for the Paerpa-Te Aroha Road metalling, and also for Qld Te Aroha Road, south end. Authority has not yet come to hand for Frankton Road, and in consequence I have placed a tag on the specifications until the authority is • received.' “It was found necessary during the month to replace a length of 9in cast water main between the old reservoir and the head ,ivorks of the Paeroa water supply which was found to be leaking badly through a split having occurred’ in the pipe. The supply was kept going from the old reservoir while repairs were being effected. “A- 1 large wooden culveit on the Paeroa-Te Aroha Road > which jvas 'n a collapsible condition had to be removed and replaced with a 36in con-crete-pipe. The bridge over Patuwhao Stream at Mangaiti which was damaged in the late flood has been repaired, ■ This work was-held up till the prseent- on account of too much water in the creek to effect repairs. “In. the: interest of the life of the Puke bridge it will be necessary to complete the longitudinal decking of the Council’s portion of same. The Public Works Department has done so on the new portion erected by (the department. As this will entail an expenditure of approximately £6O I advised the engineer of the Hauraki Plains County of the fact, and am now awaiting a reply. “Fair progress is being made with all- contracts within the county, and Victoria Street Bridge approach and Robinson's Road have been completed. ' ‘Re Mr Kingswell’s application for a grant for repairs to Mcßrinn’s Road, Maratoto: In company with the Mining. Inspector I< visited this locality and found a considerable amount of work had been done by Mr Kingswell. He had so-improved the read that it is possible to get a team-of horses >to the low level. A reply has been received ’ from the Minister of Mines offering £5O, £ for -£, on certain conditions, ahd a copy of the letter has been forwarded to Mr Kingswell, but no reply has been received from him.”
