TURUA.
ROADING SCHEME. Slow progress is being made with the Turua southern area permanent reading scheme. Everything has been in readiness tor some time, but the delay in the delivery vf metal is holding up the work. However, the contractor at Puriri now has his plant going well, and has sufficient men to warrant a steady output. At Gumtown Road complete arrangements have been made fbr the expeditious handling of the raetal, and the outlet from the roadside drain has been widened and deepened to make a safe berthage tor punts. A hopper with two compartments and four chutes has been erected. The hoist is driven by an electric motor, and can also be used to fill trucks direct from the punt. Trucks of a modified Public Works Department type are being constructed by a Turua man. The bitumen boiling tank is at present being fitted up near the Orchard East Abad corner. The main road from the Town Board boundary to the Huirau Road corner has been scarified, formed, and rolled, and Guirtown Road has been partly formed. A few chains of metal have been spread on this road.
