PAEROA WATER SUPPLY.

POSITION SATISFACTORY. CAUSE OF LOW PRESSURE. At the Paeroa Borough Council meeting last evening the Ohinemuri County Council replied to the inquiry of the Mayor as to the cause of want of pressure on the water supply, stating that the service at the reservoir and head works was in good order and the low pressure was apparently the result of considerable wastage of water. T t was decided to thank the county for its efforts to conserve the water supply during the dry spell of weather. The mayor said that he had made a number of enquiries as to the water supply, and in company with the foreman had made two trips to the reservoir that day, and he was pleased to report that the reservoir was beautifully clear and clean. Both at mid-day and at 6 P.m. the dam was found to be overflowing. The mayor said that he was of the opinion that water for gardening purposes might be granted any time after 6 p.m., but that did nbt mean that undue waste of water, could be allowed, but that reasonable use of hoses might be made. He thought consumers should help the council by avoiding waste during the dry season, and had no real fear of a shortage provided consumers would co-operate with the council in its endeavours to maintain an adequate domestic supply of water. Regarding the consumers situated on the high areas of the tow the Mayor sid thata he had gone into the matter and had found that the reason why the pressure had been so feeble diving certain hours was because a large supply was taken at one time by the Railway Department. The forman was to be Instructed to arrange with the department to spread its consumption over a longer period instead of drawing its supplies at one time.
