THE WAIKINO TRAGEDY.
HIGGINS REMANDED TO PAEROA. PRELIMINARY HEARING FRIDAY. Charged with the murder of two boys at ' Waikino Public School on October 19, John Higgins, aged_ 57, again appeared before the magistrate at the Police Court at Auckland on Saturday morning handcuffed and the very picture of dejection. Spectacles gave Higgins a mild, surprised appearance. and the gyves on the wrists seemed scarcely necessary. SeniorSergeant Rawle asked for a remand till Friday next, at Paeroa, and this was granted. On inquiring “What time ?” his counsel, Mr J. J. Sullivan, was informed that the hour -set was 9 a.m.
