The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, and the Hon. R. F. Ballard, Minister of Internal Affairs, accompanied by Mr H. Poland, M.P., are due in Paeroa from the Hauraki Plaids this afternoon, when it is expected that deputations from the Paeroa Borough Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Awaiti settlers will be received. The local registrar, Mr J. G. McDougall, supplied the following vital statistics for Paeroa for November: Births, 4 ; deaths, 1; marriages, 1. An impression seems to have got round that bowling by electric light on the Paeroa green is confined solely to members of the bowling club, bnt this is not so. The greens are open to the general public for wight play on payment of the prescribed fee of Is per game of 21 heads. In connection with the .recent visit of Mr H. Poland, M.P., and Messrs A. R. Robinson and E. ShaW, chairman and engineer, respectively, to the Ohinemuri County Council, to Whangamata last week, a settler from the district informs us (states the Waihi Telegraph) that the failure of the farmers to meet the party was due to no fault of their own. The settlers were aware that sooner or later tho party contemplated visiting Whangamata, but that no intimation had been received as to the dateWhile on the subject the settler in question said that once the WaihiWhangamata road is put into satis;factory order the district will go ahead, but that in its present condition jt is practically impassable to vehiculai traffic in the winter months,
The following was the lainfall In Paeroa for November, as recorded by the local office of the Public Works Department: A total of 1.71 inches was recorded for the 30 days, the heaviest fall being on November 18, when 64in was registered. Rain fell on eight days of the month. At Waihi 7in of rain fell during November. The following were the prizewinners in the weight-computing competition held by the Hauraki A. and P. Association at its show in Paeroa last week: Three sheep, J. A. Reid, guessed exact weight, 190 , 1 b. Pig The exact weight of 97%1b was guessed oy T. Lawson, Ngarua. Waitoa. The weight of the heifer was 723%1b|. and G. E. Wyatt, of Puriri, was the winner with a guess of 7241 b. The nearest estimate to the weights in the three computing classes was that of Caph. H. Peacock, who was within a %lb of the weight of the pig, 11b of •the three sheep, and 231 b of the weight of the heifer. a. decided improvement will be effected in Belmont Road when the new shop at the corner of Williams Street is completed for Mr D. McWatters, the well-known clothier and mercer. The building is being constructed in brick and will have a frontage of 41ft.3in to Belmont Road and a depth of 50ft to Williams Streep The height from floor to ceiling will he 13ft, and the front parapet will be carried on a 41ft reinforced concrete beam., having no intermediate supports,, with a 12 ft return front to Williams Street. The whole front, including the doors, will be built in oak, and large plate-glass windows with deep window boards. The ceilings are to be of fibrous plasteii, which will be carried on fullspan rpof trusses. The building will be divided into two shops, and provision will be made for an office, try-ing-on room, and store-room. It will be replete with modern furnishings and appointments, and should be a distinct credit to the town. Mr McWatters is to be congratulated on his enterprise and confidence in the future of Paeroa. The building was designed by Mr E. E. Gillman,, architect, and Mr W. Marshall is the contractor. It is hoped that the new shop will be ready for occupation by February next.
