HIKUTAIA.
SOCIAL. A social, organised by a committee of ladies belonging to the croquet club, was held in the hall last Wednesday evening, when, owing to the weather and other causes, the attendance’ was not quite up to the usual standard. The floor was in good condition, the supper was excellent, and tlfo music by Mr M. C. Smith’s orchestra was satisfactory, while the duties of M.C. were efficiently carried out by Mr P, Shine. The prizes in the game of euchre, which was keenly contested, were won by Mrs G. Avery and Mr D. Rumble. ALLEY MEMORIAL PARK. On Saturday last the Alley Memorial Park presented an animated scene, a very large number of croquet, bowling, and tennis players participating in the various games, and evidently thoroughly enjoying them. In the Club Pairs bowling competition of twelve heads R. R. Morrison and W. H. Alley (7) lost to R. Morrison and T. Hitchcock (12), while H. Cameron and E. Elliot defeated AH. Capper and F. Hill by 15 points to 8. Several full-rink and pairs games were also played. The visit of a party of players from Turua, consisting fo Mrs P, Henry, Messi's J- Brownlee, P. Henry, and D. G. McMillan, added considerable zest to the tennis games. The local players thoroughly enjoyed the play, and were more than fully etxended by the more experienced visitors. The croquet players, who anticipate a vsiit! from several Te Aroha ladies next week, are eager to learn from them the finer points of the game.
