HIKUTAIA.

SOCIAL. A social in aid of the hall funds took place on Thursday of last week, when, owing to the inclement weather, the attendance was comparatively small. Nevertheless, all appeared to enjoy themselves, and the dancers were in no way crowded. Mrs Potter supplied the' music, while Mr P. Shine acted as M.C. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs A. McSweeney and Master M. Alley. BOWLING. In spite of the rain there was quite a fcig muster of howlers on the local green on Saturday, when several enjoyable games were played, in the sub-pairs competition Messrs B. Winder and H. Valentine beat Messrs H. Bi ash and A. Duncan, the game being anybody’s until the last head. Last year’s winner of the Rooster, Mr H. Brash, is not to be allowed to rest on his laurels, no fewer, than seven challengers for the coveted trophy being handed in on Saturday. TENNIS. Although the tennis courts are now in first class ordei- there has been lit.le play. This is to be regretted, as, in order to keep their end up m inter-club matches,, constant practice by the members is an obvious necessity. ROADS. Much needed repairs are being made to the Station and School Roads, the larger holes being filled in with metal ahd earth. . These renovations will be duly appreciated. . ACCIDENT. It is reported that Mr M. C. Smith, while pursuing his; ordinary avocations on his farm, met with an accident . serious enough to necessitate medical attention. PERSONAL. A full rink, representing the Hikutaia Bowling Club, and consisting of Messrs W. H. Alley, E. Elliot, H. Morrison, and A. R. Robinson, left for Thames on Tuesday morning to take part in the annual bowling tournament held under the auspices of the Thames Club.
