RECORD JERSEY COW.
1010 LBS. OF BUTTER-FAT. Official advice was received by Mr W. H. Miers, of Rukuhia, last week, from the New Zealand Dairy Division, that his pedigree Jersey cow, Pretty’s Flirt, has completed her semi-official record for last season, and that she has established a record for Australia and New Zealand. The cow gave 16,684 lbs of milk and ICIO lbs of butter-fat for the one lactation periad. She is the first Jersey cow 1 in Australia or New Zealand .to give 1000 lbs of butter-fat in one season. Pretty’s Flirt is an eight-year-old cow, and is by Exile of Oaklands, the sire of eight daughters with an everage production of of 529 lbs of butterfat. Her dam was Bank’s Pretty, which has a yield of 6111 lbs of fat, and Bank’s Pretty’s dam was Pretty Polly, whose record aws 645 lbs of fatPretty’s Flirt was bred by Mr John Hale, of New Plymouth,, and was bought by Mr Miers two years ago. During the last season she was given all the green oats and roots and grass she could eat. In addition, she. had three .double handfuls, of bran each morning.
