KARANGHAKE.
OBITUARY. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be.,extended to Mrs Fitzgerald and family in the loss they have sustained by the death of Mr Fitzgerald. The late Mr Fitzgerald, who was 57 years of age, was one of the oldest settlers of this district, having resided here for the padt 28 years. He followed the occupation, of a miner, having worked in both the Talisman and the Crown Mines, while he was one of the first workmen engaged in driving the railway tunnel on the Waihi-Paeroa line. Mr Fitzgerald was also one of the oldest members of the Loyal Karangahake Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F. He leaves a widow and nine children. The interment took place on Thursday afternoon last at the Paeroa Cemetery, the large cortege marking the respect in which the deceased was held by all who knew him. CRICKET MATCH. On Saturday last the Kopuarahi cricket, team play a friendly match with the local team on the Recreation grounds. Unfortunately the weather, was not of the best, with the result that the match wa,s unfinished. The following is a detailed account of the play :— KARANGAHAKE!. A. Green, b Field 7 W. Rackham 2 Biddie, not out 5 Byes ; 10 Total 67 Karangahake went in for the second innings, but when three wickets had fallen for 56 runs stumps were drawp on account of rain setting in. It has been decided to play ithe return match- on December 8. A practice match will be played on Saturday week, when all players are reauested to be present. , tennis. Owing to the cricket match, Kopuarahi v. Karangahake, being played on Saturday last the opening day of the tennis club was postponed until Saturday next. A working bee was busily engaged on Monday evening clearing the courts, so the opening day should prove an enjoyable outing.
