THE CLOTHIER SHIELD. . TE AROHA TOURNAMENT* The annual contest for the Clothier Shield and Goldfields Challenge Stars was held in Te Aroha on' Saturday and Monday last, .teams; from Paeroa, Thames, Waihi, Matamata, Mprrinsville, and Te Aroha taking part. The local club sent up two teams, comprising N. C. Busby, J, Turner, J, Pinder, and G. H, Taylor; and R. T. Thorp, Wi. Turner, W. J. Towers, and W. H. Taylor. The contest was played in two sections, A and B. SECTION A. Paeroa No. 1, G. H. Taylor skip, 5 wins 1 loss; Te Aroha No. 1, P. Bygrave skip, 4 wins 2 losses; Thames No. 2, Cordes skip, 4 wins 2 losses ; Waihi No. 1, McDermott skip, 3 wins 3 losses ; Matamata No. 2, Sloan skip, 2 wins 4 losses; Te Aroha No. 3, Dransfield skip, 2 wins 4 losses ; Morrinsville No. 2, O’Brien skip, 1 win 5 losses. SECTION B. Te Aroha Np. 2, Peterson skip, 5 wins 2 losses; Matamata No. 1, Flett skip, 5 wins 2 losses ; Thames Ko. Adamson skip, 4 wins 3 losses; Waihi Noi. 3, Smith skip, 4 wing 3 losses; Waihi No. 2, McGonagle skip, 4 wins 3 losses; Paeroa No. 2, W. H. Taylor skip, 2 wins 5 losses; Morrinsville No. 1, S. Cornish skip, 2 wins 5 losses; Matamata No. 3, Yardley skip, 2 wins 5 losses. In the play-off of 5 heads between Peterson’s and Flett’s teams Peterson’s team won. FINAL A large number of. spectators assembled to witness the final between the Paeroa and Te Aroha teams, which resulted in a. rather easy victor}’ for Te Aroha, the game finishing on the 19th head with the scores 28 tp 15. The winners were heartily congratulated on their success. The teams in the final were as follows:— Te Aroha No. 2.—A. Hesketh, lead; E. H. Hankins, No. 2; M. Ngakura, No. 3; H. Peterson, skip. Paeroa No. I—N. C. Busby, lead; J. Turner, No. 2; J. Pinder, No. 3; G. H. Taylor, skip.
