FORTHCOMING SHOW.
(To the Editor). Sir, —Having no other means of miking my opinion known—since there are no women on the Hauraki A. and P. Show Committee-—I wish to put my views before the long-suffer-ing public of Paeroa through the medium of your paper. The annua) show is about to take place, and so far I. have no reason to believe that it will not prove to be the usual annual ordeal to everyone ether than those who are interested in cows and horses. In view of the increased prosperity of Paeroa and surrounding districts it is up to the Show Committee to try to make the .affair an absolute event, instead of an imitation of a broken-down circup, minus the band and clown. The following is a list of sugestions, which I humbly submit to the consideration of the Hauraki A. and P. Association in the firm belief that the spectators deserve, and will appreciate, the entertainment: 1. A good band. 2. A well-managed, clean, and roomy refreshment room, with competent attendance. 3i. Something to interest those of the public who are not particularly interested in cattle and riding competitions. (This would be the means of attracting more people from near and fan.) t. More side-shows, and better rentals from them. 5. The school children might be brought into it, to perform drills, dances, etc., which would give addde interest to all parents. 6. A ladies’ committee. The ladies showed their ability during the yvar period on the various patriotic committees, and there should be little doubt of capabilities. 7. For evening entertainment, in order that interest be not allowed to wane, a carnival could be arranged in which the good office of the Power Board could be invited to illuminate the streets and grounds. This may seem ambitious and extravagant, but with the hearty cooperation of the townspeople it should be able to realise a good margin of profit. ONE WOMAN. TENNIS COURTS. Sir, —I noticed in your issue of the 24th inst. a statement made by Cr. Edwards tp the effect that teachers have been playing on the Domain Courts in heeled shoes. Will the said councillor donate five pounds (£5) towards the School Improvement Fund if bis statement is proved to be incorrect 2 CIVIS.
