BOWLING.
PAIRS COMPETITION. Perfect weather favoured the local - bowling club on Monday last, Labour Day, when a progressive pairs competition, ten heads up, was played. The green was-in good order, and keen. This fact, combined with bright sunshine, enabled “trundlers” to spend a thoroughly enjoyable day on .the rinks. Play commenced soon, after 9 a.m., and was continued until the last heads were played, shortly before 6 P-m. Possibly the season was rather early for such a competition, which resolved, itself into the survival of the fittest towards .the close of the afternoon. Some close games resulted, and it interesting to record the capable display of bowls put up by some of the leads, several of whom had only played one game prior to taking part m the competition. The skips’ competition was "won by the president, Mr W. T. Power, with, six games out of a possible seven his credit. In the leads Mr L. Gibb carried out first honours, also "winning six games.
