PAEROA BOWLING CLUB.
OFFICIAL OPENING. The 20th official opening of the Paeroa Bowling Club was held on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. Long before the time appointed for opening local bowling enthusiasts, their wives and friends, and visiting bowlers began to turn up. It is estimated that between 200 and 300 people were present, including Mr H. Poland, M.P., and His Worship the Mayor, Mr W. Marshall. About 2.45 P.m. Mr W, T. Power, president of the Club, gathered the crowd together and in a few remarks heartily welcomed the visitors on behalf of .the Club and trusted that they would enjoy a happy afternoon’s play. The first jack was then thrown down the ring by Mrs Power, and the 1923-24 bowling season in Paeroa was declared open amidst applause. Eight full rinks were then selected from among the visitors, representing Hikutaia, Thames, Waikino, Te Aroha, and Waihi clubs, and the local players.
4 thoroughly enjoyable afternoon’s bowling was indulged in, resulting in a win for the vice-president’s team by 17 points. The players were evenly matched, and on some-of the rinks very close games resulted, as the following scores indicate. .The president’s team is mentioned first in each case:—

A delicious and dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies, whose willing help added very materially to the enjoyment and success of the afternoon generally. At the conclusion of the play, about 5.30 p.m., the president thanked the visitors] for their assistance, after ladies for their assistance, after which cheers were called and heartily given for the ladies, the visitors, and ■the Club’s caretaker, Mr W.
