TURUA. TURUA DEBATE. Great interest is being taken tn the debate on the kirikiri Bridge question which will be held to-night. The subject is : “Considering the present progress of the Hauraki Plains, is the construction of the Kirikiri Bridge warranted ?” Mr D. G. McMillan and Mr P. R. Henry will speak in the affirmative and Mr W. E. G. Willy and Mr A. Rogers in the negative. STOCK SALE. Nearly 400 head of stock were yarded at Messrs A. Buckland and Son’s Turua sale on' Friday last, and practically all were sold at very satisfactory prices. Included in the dairy cattle offeied were about 100 head from other districts. These sold particularly well, the best changing hands at prices ranging from £l3 10s to £l9 10s, others from £8 to £l2 10s ; best heifers £lO to £l3, others £7 10s to £9 10s ; yearling heifers £2 4is 6d to £3. There was little demand for bulls. Jerseys brought from 5 to C guineas, a Friesian 7% guineas, and a Shorthorn £3 10s. A pen of heavy Shorthorn bullocks brought £l2 7s 6dEmpty cows brought from £2 2s 6d to £B, according to quality. ngatea. COUNTY OFFICE. The temporary office of the Hauraki Plains County Council was on Friday and Saturday shifted to a new site nearer the library to make room for the new county office, the construction of which Mr G. Giles, of Ngatea, has secured the contract. The new office will be of reinforced concrete, and will occupy an area about 37ft square. It will contain four large rooms, a small public office, a strongroom, and a small store room for stationery. The board room will be 20ft Im by 21ft 4in, the clerk’s office and the assistants’ offee 14ft 6in by 13ft 6in, and the enigneer’s office 16ft by 14ft 6in. The exterio? walls will be plastered with roughcast, and the interior lined with a dado of T. and G. rimu 4ft 3in high and fibrous plaster. The contract price is £1598 15s, and the job must be completed in 16 weeks from the date of acceptance. Mr. W. J. Clare has been appointed clerk of works. WORKING BEE. For the purpose of levelling the school grounds apd forming footpaths a working bee was held on Saturday. About a dozen men assembled with shovels and implements or teams j>f horses, and much work was done. PATETONGA. PERSONAL. At the recent examination in pianoforte playing held in Morrinsville by the Associated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London, Miss Lorna Cumberland (pupil of Mrs P. E. McGregor) was successful in obtaining a pass in the Division.
