WANTON MISCHIEF.
ROWLING GREEN DESPOILED. Time and again the attention of the public has been drawn to the acts of vandalism that have been committed in this town by presumably irresponsible hoodlums with a distorted sense of humor and an utter disregard for private .and public property. It, seems inconcievable that any pleasure could be found in deliberately destroying garden plots and shrubs. The local Beautifying Society has been subjected to such acts, and although publicity was given to the matter at the time, the offenders managed to escape punishment. The latest to suffer from this form of destruction is the Paeroa. Bowling Club, buring Wednesday night some person entered t,he bowling green and wrenched the water pipe down from the side of the pavilion. With the piece of piping, with the tap attached, a visit was made to the green. Apparently the broken pipe was used as a pick to dig holes in the green, for every few yards small diamond-shaped holes hav? been made, destroying every rink. In addition to the holes being made a garden seat was removed from near the pavilion and dragged across the bowling green into the centre. The lawn roller was also pulled from its customary position on the side and left in the centre of the green near the seat. The roller is a very heavy one, so it is obvious that no mere youth committed the mischief. The police have the matter in hand, and with the assistance of some fifty indignant bowlers and a large section of the public it is earnestly hoped that the offenders will be caught and be given adequate .punishment for committing .such a dastardly act.
