NGATEA SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Ngatea District High School was held on Monday evening. There were present Messrs W. McDuff (chairman), E. Walton, W. J. Clare, J. McKerchar, and C. W, Schultz (secretary). The headmaster (Mr N. J. Crabb), reported that the numbers on the roll at the end of the month were: Primary 101, secondary 13. The attendances were: primary 89.4, secondary 8.8. The inspectors at their last visit decided to recommend two out of the foui> candidates for the senior free place. This is not a bad result for a school that has just started, and he felt sure that with due encouragement the secondary department would do well. The numbers at present are rather discouraging, but no doubt will he remedied next year. He asked to have a ruling of the committee as to whether Sunday tennis is to be allowed on the school grounds. After a great deal of discussion ic was decided that the headmaster be informed that the committee would take no action at present, but reserved to itself the right to take action in the future. The Minister of Education wrote stating that he would be visiting the district in November, and would then be pleased to open the new school. A definite date would be fixed later. The chairman of the Patetonga School Committee wrote asking the co-operation of the Ngatea Committee in getting a dental clinic established on the Plains. It was resolved to co-operate with the other comimttees, and to write to the Education Department and the Board of Education as suggested. Arrangements have been made for a working bee to improve the school grounds on SatuljJay next.
