TURUA TOWN BOAD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday evening, there being present: Commissioners J. Mules (chairman), CScott, A. P. Gardiner, F. Beck,. J. T. Davies, F. Olsen, and the cleGt (Mr U. E. Green). OVERHANGING TREES. The Thames Valley Power Board wrote demanding the removal of certain trees endangering ppwer wiresThe chairman stated th alt this had been done. OVERDRAFT. The manager’ of the Bank of New Zealand advised that .the legal limit of overdraft was £l6s.—Received. DANGEROUS FOOTBRIDGE. The secretary, Turua School Committee, wrote bringing under the notice of the Board the dangerous state of the footbridge over 1 the drain adjoining the school, and asked that repairs be carried out. The drain bank was slipping in, causing a hole which, was a danger to school children. Mr Beck said that he considered it was up to the Drainage Board to put in pipes. The drain was constantly slipping in, and consequently the bridge had frequently required attention. He was opposed to the Board doing any more repairs. He moved that the Drainage Board be asked to provide suffeient pipes. The Board would have them installed. The chairman said that something should be done right away. The Drainage Board would not meet for a month, and in the meantime repairs should be effected. Mr Olsen offered ,to supply the necessary timber, and Mr Beck agreed to do the work on the following day. ; The motion was seconded by Mr Gardiner and carried. CONFERENCE WANTED. It was agreed that the Drainage Board be asked to meet the Town Board in conference, to discuss various matters affecting the two bodies. BRIDGES. Mr Davies pointed out that when the roading scheme was carried ou; the present wooden bridges should be replaced by concrete pipes. He moved in that direction. Mr Olsen seconded, and the motion was carried. The chairman pointed out that some of the drains were under the dual control of the Drainage Board and the Drainage Department. CONFERENCE REPORT. The chairman reported on the conference with the County Council, as reported in the "Gazette.” The total amount to be credited t,o the Board in respect of county rates payable to the board for the year ending March 31 was approximately £lO3. Against this credit was to be set the debt of £74 19s 9d, leaving a nett credit balance of approximately £2B Os 4d. Members expressed satisfaction at the state of affairs revealed and the fair manner in which the Board had been treated by the council. Delegates spoke very highly of the county clerk, who had gone put of his way to make matters clear. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The clerk reported that since April 1 the amount of rates collected was £l2O 16s 2d. The expenditure to date was £236 12s 3d. Therp v/as now a ■debit balance of £66. The limit of the bank overdraft was £165, which, with the outstanding rates, would give a sum of £99 to work upon. Accounts presented for payment totalled £74 8s 7d, so the Board should not incur any heavy liability before more rates came in.
