MR WALTERS’ AVIARY.
BEHAVIOUR OF VISITORS. — ' ‘ w Mr E. J. Walters, of Hikutaia, writing to the Editor with reference to visitors to his aviary at Hikutaia, says:— •‘The increasing number of visitors who call .to see my ostriches and other birds makes it necessary *££ ; me to ask that certain rules be obey- - • ed. In the first place’ all visitors are welcome, but we expect strangers to ask for permission before wandering unattended through the grounds. The reason for this is that thoughtless : people have given copper coins to the ostriches which during the last twelve months have caused the death . of two fine birds. These icmarks do not apply to our own personal friends. Visitors are asked not’to feed birds or animals, nor to bring dogs to the enclosure, especially at this time, when the ostriches are nesting. Yes-ter-ady more than thirty people visited the grounds, and no doubt as Ihe summer advances the numbers will increase, especially on those days that the band is ito play here—notice of which will be given “Gazette”’—so I think all will ag?ei*rthat some rules for visitors’ guidance? are necessary.”
