DISTRICT NEWS.
FATET9NGA. CONCERT. The concert in aid of the Patetonga Tennis Club held last Saturday was a great success, the hall being packed. Much credit is due to the organiser, Mrs W. Thompson, Messrs Appleby, Garry, and other members of the committee, and also to Mrs: G. Boyd, who not only gave much time and service to the training of a pierrot troupe, but also designed and made the scenery and costumes. The first item of the programme, which was a generous one, was “De Ole Banjo,” sung by the Christie Minstrels, which, with a few local “hits,” created much amusement. Mr P. Naughton then recited “Not Understood,” and was encored, as were all the performers. Mr Gordon sang “Down’ the Vale,” Miss U. Shaw following with the "Sword Dance.” Mr Charmers recited “The Man from Snowy River,” Mr Wilkins sang “Sympathy,” and Mrs Llqyd pleased the audience with “Island of Dreams” and "The Carnival.” Mr Higgins then recited "Murphy shall not sing to night,” and was followed by Mrs H?gue-Smith, who sang delightfully “The Wilderness” and others. Mrs Wallace rendered with much feeling ‘‘My Ain Folk” and Killarney,” while Mr Titchener contributed . “Sing Me to Sleep.” Mr Mcllvride then sang “New Zealand Girls are Slweeter than the Peaches on the Tree,” and evoked much applause, The Pierrots, or "What Nots,” commenced with “Pierrot Land,” whicn was sung very effectively by Mr Pike. Mrs Boyd followed with "Dixieland,” and Mr Pollen with “Wait till you get them up in the air, boys.” Mr Woodbridge sang “Carolina in the Morning,” and Miss Cfliarken and Mr Pike sang "Sympathy.” Miss M. Wallace rendered “Kentucky Home,” and Mr N, Wallace gave "Chorus Gentlemen.” Mrs G. Boyd then followed with a humorous impersonation of an army officer called "My Word *” Mucn amusement was caused by “Boots and Shoes,” sung daintly by Miss D. darken, “Dancing Mad,” by Messrs Pollen, Woodbridge, Pike, ajnd Wallace went with a swing. “The Oriental Moon,” by Miss J. Wallace, proved most enjoyable. The final performance of "Soy Town” by the Pierrots aroused much enthusiasm, The programme concluded with “Good Night,” appropriately sung by the Minstrels. Mrs W. Lloyd and Miss T« Caldwell played the accompaniments.
