IDLE AND DISORDERLY.
YOUNG MAN IN TROUBLES TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS’ DETENTION On Friday morning Constable McClinchy arrested a young man named William Francis Hamilton in Normanby Road, Paeroa. The accused was brought before Messrs W. Marshall and W. F. North, J’s.P., and charged with being an idle and disorderly person, without sufficient moans of (lawful support. He pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily, Constable McClinchy stated*that accused had been training as a jockey, but he would not work prefering to consort' with drunks and idle around. He had been given a fire, wood-cutting contract, but, had only cut about two tons of wood. The constable said that accused had nothing of vallue on his person when he was arrested. Accused pleaded for another chance, and promised that he would go straight to work. In answer to Mr Marshall accused said that he had been training horses from October pf last year to M’arch for a Mr Cathro. He could not complete the firewood contract because his mate had left him. On being pressed, accused admitted that he had done very little work since March. In reply to Mr North he said that he had not contributed anything towards the support of his widowed mother, who lived in Hamilton. Constable McClinchy said that accused owed money for board and lodgings in several houses in Paeroa. Accused was sentenced to 28 days’ detention in Thames Gaol.
