The following have been nominated for the committee of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club: Messrs H. R. Bush, J. Clarkin, E. Fathers, J. Goonan (retiring members), F. E. Flatt, W. D. Nicholas, and J. W. Silcock. TWo Priestman dredges are working in the Piako River near Kerepeehi, cutting off bends and improving the course of the stream. The Bucyrus dredge will be taken across the river within the next few days to commence the work of making the Puhonga canal road. Among tenders recently accepted by the Public Works Department is that of Messrs Turnbull and Jones, of Wellington, £1566, for the supply of electrical equipment for a dredge on the Waihou River. It is understood that when the dredge arrives from England it will be used on the Waihou river from Ngahina wharf down. The metal hopper, which is being constructed at Purii’i for the Plains County Council to handle metal for the Turua southern area’s reading scheme, will be completed in about a week’s time. An exceptionally fine series of illusftrations appear in this week’s issue ,of the N.Z. Sporting and Dra.matic Review. Prominent space is given to football, which covers the Auckland v. Wellington Rugby match at Eden Park, the Otago v. Wellington representative match, N.Z. Rugby Representative team in third test match, the undefeated Hawke’s Bay te?.m and the Cambridge representatives, etc. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting is the subject of an excellent page of snapshots, and the Pakuranga Club’s Point-to-point gathering is another capitally illustrated event. Other numerous events make up the most, abundantly illustrated journal of the day, Mr Fleming, of Wharepoa, has secured the contract for the alterations and additions to the Kerepeehi school.
