RAILWAY SOCIAL.

AN ENJOYABLE EVENING. An enjoyable social evening was given on Saturday night by the railwaymen to their wives and friends, the Soldiers’ Club being filled to its utmost capacity. ■ The -hall was prettily decorated with arum lillies, with touches of red, white, and green (the railway colours), During the evening many of the good old dances were in, and between the dances musical items were rendered. Songs were sung by Mrs T. Short, Mrs Clarke, and Mr<s Turton. Two very interesting recitations were given by Mr Arthur and Mr Curran. The various items were thoroughly enjoyed, and all received encores. A euchre tournament was also in progress, Mr Lawrence devoting himself tp looking after the interest and cpmfort of the players. The ladies’ first prize was won by Miss D. Poland, and the gentlemen’s first prize by Mr Schultz. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Turner and Mr Orr. The children were well provided for, and ; paper baskets of sweets' were handed • round to, them during.ithe evening. ■ A very tempting supper was handed round by the railway men, and was an added enjoyment to the evening. ' The committee: proved themselves ' models of courtesy and cosideration, and--did all in their power to-make the Quests feel “at home.” The splendid ststtje of the dancing floor, the music, arid' s the happy atmosphere made one and all feel that it was a .function not to? be missed. Dancing floras indulged in until a late hour, excellent music being provided by Miss Houlihan. Extras were played by Mrs T. Short arid Miss Taylor. Mr W. Wilson was M.C., Mr O. Morris chairman, and Mr Lawrence hpn. secretary. On J behalf of the guests Mr AislyMr.rray thanked the railway men for a very splendid evening, which one and all had.most heartily enjoyed. The'function was then brought to a close with “They are jolly good fellows” and “Auld Lang Syne” being lustily sung.
