HOSPITAL FOR PAEROA.

REPORT TO COUNCIL. SATISFACTION EXPRESSED. At Thursday evening’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council Cr. P. E. Brenan, the borough representative on the Thames Hospital Board, intimated that the proposed hospital for Paeroa had been advanced a further stage at the board’s meeting held the day previously. Cr. Brenan outlined the various stages that had taken place since the trust fund had been established in 1897. At that time it had been proposed to erect a public hospital for the Ohinemuri district, but as the years went by it was found impracticable-to carry the proposal into effect, and so matters had hung fire. There was an amount of approximately £lOOO in the old trust, fund,, and this amount,, plus about £5OO, would be handed tp the Thames Hospital Board to- be expended on tiie Paeroa hospital. Cr. Brenan said that a temporary hitch had (taken place at the board’s last meeting, with- the result that the work of establishing a hospital would be delayed meantime. It ,was not a very serious hitch, and he was of the opinion that the difficulty could be overcome- after a conference with the trustees had been held. In reply to Cr. Silcock, Cr. Brenan said that the hospital would be maintained by the Thames Hospital Board. The Mayor said that in view of the urgency of having the matter brought before the present sitting of the Supreme Court, perhaps a conference could be arranged between Mr Porritt and the board’s solicitor. Cr. Brenan said that, there had been a full discussion on the matter by the board members. He did not anticipate that there would be any unreasonable delay. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Edwards, it was decided to thank Cr. Brenan for his satisfactory report, and hopes were expressed that a hospital would be established in Paeroa at an early date.
