PAEROA WATER SUPPLY.

PORTION OF MAIN CARRIED AWAY RAIN CAUSES SERIOUS SLIP. At an early hour this morning the county engineer, Mr E, Shaw, received ward that, these had been a slip near the water supply reservoir, and he at once proceeded to make an inspection. It was found that a slip of very considerable dimensions had taken place between the head dam, fiom which the supply is ordinarily drawn, and the older reservoir farther down thecreek which is now used only for an emergency supply. The hillside, at its steepest part, has slipped into the creek, carrying the road leading to the upper dam with it. The main is broken, and from the severed pipe the water is belching forth and wasting down the gully. No time was lost in connecting the town supply with the emergency dam, and the engineer at once vent in all haste to Karangahake and Waikino anl brought back with him several of the county workmen, who at once began the work of removing the slip. Until this has been done it is impossible to ascertain the full extent of the damage, and as this may prove to be even more serious than is at present disclosed, it is imperative that all users of the water must reduce their consumption to a minimum, as the sole supply at present available is that, contained in the smaller reservoir.
