PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTER. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday night, Mr W. H. Taylor presiding. There were also present Messrs C. H. Pascoe,. L. C. Cane, W. T. Power, R. G. Sviithby, W. McKenna, and t,he scretary Mr W» L. Lawrence. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs N. C. Busby and G. H. Taylor (headmaster). SANITARY ARRANGEMENTS. The architect to the Education Board replied to a letter from the committee with reference to additional sanitary arrangements. The letter stated that, the arrangements for the infants’ department would be available as soon a,s a grant was received from Wellington to carry out the work of installing a more modern system, with additional sets of pans. The chairman said that nothing could be done until the grant was received. EXTRA VENTILATION. The Education Board advised that the delay in erecting a new skylight for the purpose of increased ventilation and lighting in the infants’ room had been caused by the skylight being wrongly consigned to the railway. A skylight was under construction in Auckland and would be forwarded as soon as completed, DONATION. A sum of £2 2s was received from Mr W. M l . Cullen, per the Chamber of Commerce,! as a donation towards the school grounds improvements fund. ROYAL MESSAGES. \ quotation for the printing on cardboard of Their Majesties’ Empire Day message,s to the children of New Zealand was submitted, and Mr Pascoe moved that the quotation be accepted and the secretary to arrange to have twenty copies printed for distribution in the' classrooms.—Seconded by Mr Cane and carried. NOXIOUS WEEDS. It was decided to draw the attention of the Borough Council to the deplorable state of the gorse on Primrose Hill, and to ask that the necessary steps be taken to have the goise cut and burnt. Mr Pascoe stated that large numbers of children passed along Primrose Hill daily, and the tracks were becoming almost impassable through the growth of gorse and blackberry. . HEADMASTER’S RESIDENCE. The’ secretary stated that permission had been obtained from the Board to have some very necessary repairs carried out to the headmaster’s house. The work had been satisfactorily done. MEMORIAL LIBRARY. On the motion of Mr Pascoe, seconded by the chairman, the committee decided to support the suggestion of thb Chamber of Commerce that, a Paeroa War Memorial Library should be establsihed in lieu of Domain gates. ’ VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs Power, Cane, and Giilman were elected a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The chairman suggested that they should confer with the headmaster and bring down a report at the next meeting of proposed work to be done in further improving the school grounds. FINANCE. The secretary reported that the bottle fund account now totalled £53 14s 3d, and that there were two small returns to come in. The school children, by their efforts in organising a series of concerts, had raised the sum of £l7 10s 10(1 towards purchasing books for the school library. Both these accounts carry a Government subsidy. The school fund account showed a credit balance of £24 6s 7d. Accounts totalling £lO 5s lOd were passed for payment.
