RESULTS AT A GLANCE. INTER-UNION MATCHES: PAEROA 8, V. PIAKO 0. WAIHI 8, V. HAURAKI PLAINS 3. PAEROA JUNIORS : KARANGAHAKE 18, V. SUBURBS 3NETHERTON V. WEST POSTPONED. PLAINS V. WAIHI. This match was played a l . Waihi on the No. 2 ground,, owing lo the No. 1 ground being unfit to play on, having .suffered from the heavy downpour. The game was very scraggy, a,nd the greasy hall was difficult to handle. The attendance was very poor, Waihi kicked off with the wind slightly in their favour. The whole of the hist half was played with heavy rain falling continuously. Waihi started with only 12 men, but shortly after the first quarter a full team was on the field. Waihi attacked all through the first quarter, but the Plains defence was good and the quarter ended with no score. Aftei the change over Plains cid the attacking, and after some good work by the forwards Wallis followed up fast and scored. Molloy’s kick was unsuccessful. Plains 3, Waihi 0. Half-time was called without any further scores. On commencing the second hait Waihi forced the play and had Plains defending. The rain had somewhat abated and the wind had also dropped slightly. Waihi pressed hard and kept play in the Plains twenty-five, and from a short passing rush Clark scored near the posts and converted his own try, making the scores Waihi 5, Plains 3. Plains then made every endeavour to equalise, and good wo? t* by Campbell and Nicoll carried plar to Waihi’s area, and in a race for the ball Heath just beat Campbell and forced. Waihi came again, and after some loose play near Plains’ goal Verrall forced his way over. Clark failed to convert. Waihi 8, Plains 3. The final round commenced w r ith Waihi having a slight advantage, due to the good defensive work of Heath. The Plains forwards were not playing with combination, and the bulk of the attacking was left to the backs. From scraggy play in Waihi’s twentydive Nicoll appeared to score, but a serpm resulted. From an interchange of kicks the ball went to Campbell, who made a good run downfield, but in steadying himself t,p pass Heath was well taken from behind by Clark. Time was called shortly afterwards, with Waihi attacking, the game ending: Waihi 8, Plains 3. Mr S. Hovell was referee. For Waihi Heath' was exceptionally good, and he took the greasy ball well, saving his side on numerous occasions. Mooney also played a good game, making some good openings.
