TALE OF A CAPTAIN.
ONE MORE LIQUOR VOYAGE AND £290,000. The captain of a British steam yacht, lying 15 miles off the Virginia Capes was reported recently to have landed at Cape Henry in a yawl and proceeded to Norfolk, Virginia, where he exchanged 250,000 dollars for British currency. His business completed, the captain is said to have boarded a launch and returned to the yacht. The captain is quoted in American newspapers as saying that he had never brought liquor closer than fifteen miles off the American shore, his practice being to sell and transfer cargoes to luggers at least 12 mijes from territorial waters. The luggers are sa(d to bring the liquor to the three-miles limit and then dispose of, it to smaller craft. . A remark ascribed to the captain is that one more voyage will enable him t,o retire with a fortune bf £2OO, 000.
