NGATEA. personal. Mr H. K; Warner, of the Thames Valley Power Board’s staff, who has been stationed on the Plains since operations were commenced in the area, has received notification of his transfer to MatamaJta. Miss M. P. Smith, who has been in business in Ngatea for the past two years, leaves Ngatea to-day. At the last Saturday night dance she was presented, on behalf of her many friends, with a small cheque. Miss E. Hilford, who has been postmistress at Ngatea for a nummber of years, has resigned. She left last evening by the s.s. Gael, en route to her home in North Auckland. Miss Newth’ has been appointed postmistress in her stead. Messrs J. Banks and A. Muggridge have left, Ngatea with the idea of joining the New Zealand Navy. KEREPEEHI. LEADS wingers club. A meeting of ex-service men was held at Kerepeehi on Wednesday evening. Mr B. J. Loudon,, the convenor, explained that the meeting had been called at the request of several exservice men to consider a means of keeping the returned men together. To this end he suggested that a social committee or a club be formed among those present.' It was decided to form a social club, and after much argument it was decided that the name be the Lendswingers Club. The following committee were elected to arrange the first social entertainment, which would take the form of a smoke concert : Messrs G. A. Avey (chairman), V. Dent, J. Murdock, M. McMillan, B. J. Louden, J. Mitchell, B. Jack, J. E. Smith (secretary), and T. D. Jones (treasureri). It was decided that only ex-service men would be eligible for membership of the club on payment of a voluntary subscription. The committee met after the general meeting and discussed . details. PROPOSED DRAINAGE BOARD. The meeting at Kerepeehi which was called to discuss the proposed Drainage Board on Tuesday morning lapsed owing to the small attendance. Mr J. H. Nicholson pointed out that Mr D. Shilton and Mr J. Taylor had agreed to act as delegates from Kerepeehi. The principle of one drainage board to control the whole area between the rivers was affirmed. TURUA. SOCIAL EVENING. A very successful social evening 'was held by the Sports Club in: the Victoria Hall, Turua, on Monday last. About seventy persons attended, and a pleasant time was spent by all. Full justice was done to a very dainty supper, for the providing of which, and the decorating of the tables,, the members of the Ladies’ Committee are. to be highly complimented. The usual toasts were duly proposed and honoured, and were interspersed with musical items. Many thanks are due to the Turua Orchestra, whose services were given free to help make the function a success. In the course of the evening the president (Mr W. Chapman),, on behalf of the Sports Club Committee,, presented the secretary, Mr J. -Bennett, with a handsome case of pipes in recognition of his services to the club. Great regret was expressed at the absence of the chairman of the Town Board, but it was stated that he had made the at tempt, but lost one of his gum boots in the mud and had to return home. WELCOME! HOME. Mr J. Gibson, one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of- Turua, returned home on Monday evening, having joined the noble army of Benedicts, and both he and Mrs Gibson must have been very pleased at the hearty welcome home they received, and the kind and sincere wishes for their future happiness and expressions of pleasure that they were to be permanent residents in the township.
