BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

A SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL. The social held by the Paeroa Beautifying Society at the Central Theatre on Thursday last was voted by all who attended to be a pronounced success. The committee had spared no pains to make the social one io be remembered, and in their efforts were amptly Rewarded and backed up by the public generally. Gifts were received on all hands —for the euchre prizes, supper, and not least, labour in preparing the hall and attendance at the supper tables. The evening from the commencement went with a warm heartedness, which was maintained throughout. The euchre tables attracted an unusually large number of players, and these were looked after by Miss Shaw in her usual capable manner. After a couple pf hours’ play the winners proved to be : First lady’s, Mrs Marsh, second lady’s Mrs E. Edwards; first gentleman’s, Mr G. N. Hart, second gentleman’s, Mr D. W. Robson. The excellent dance music supplied by Mr “Brooky” Christian was indeed a pleasure to dance to, and was favourably commented on by all who tripped the light fantastic. The floor was just in as good a condition as it was possible to get. it, and this, combined with the perfect music, added much to the enjoyment of the dancers. The ladies’ committee, who received willing help, are to be complimented on the excellent supper aud the supper arrangements generally. The underlying feature of the social was to raise funds to help the Beautifying Society to carry on its good work, and all those interested in the movement will be pleased to learn that a sum of about £2O will.be added to the revenue of the society as the result of this social. The committee has asked us to extend its best thanks to all who assisted with donations of cakes and help with the supper arrangements generally,. and especially to Mr and Mrs Medhurst, Messrs W. F. Johnstone, D. MrWatters, P. R. Hubbard, and G. 3. Taiboys for prizes ; to Mrs E. Shaw for ham, the Farmers’ Union Trading Co. for ham, Messrs Say and Co. tongue, Mr Cassrels milk, Mr T. H.
