BAD ROAD.
PAEROA TO TE AROHA. With reference to a paragraph which appeared in the Auckland dailies yesterday relating to motorcars from Waihi to Te Aroha becoming stuck in the mud on Saturday last, the Ohinemuri county engineer (Mr E. Shaw) was interviewed on the matter. Mr Shaw said that that particular portion of the road had been receiving attention for some time past, but owing to the continuous wet weather ’the work of repair had been seriously delayed. This fact,., combined with the difficulty of obtaining ti-tree for faseining purposes in that particular locality, has made the work more arduous. The piece pf road near Tuipa that has been referred to is a clay road, and the council for some time past has been endeavouring to obtain a grant to have it metalled. The damage has been caused by the travelling public, and there are not the number of ratepayers in the locality to enable sufficient revenue to be collected for maintenance purposesThe road to Te Aroha is not yet negotiable with safety by motor traffic. The engineer has a gang of men on now. and given anything like fine weather the condition of the road will be Immediately Improved.
