TENNIS DANCE.

AN UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. It must be very gratifying to the members and committee of the Paeroa, Tennis Club for the success, from every viewpoint, pfl the dance and euchre tournament held in the Central Theatre on Thursday last. Despite the unpropitious weather there was a large and representative attendance from all parts of the district. About eighty couples took the floor, and the gathering went with a swing from start to finish. A special feature of ithe evening was the dance music, which was supplied by a local orchestra comprising Mrs F. S. Budd (pian), Miss B, Jones and Mr C. Mills (violins). Extras were supplied by Mrs McLean and Misses Nicholls, Taylor, and Houlihan. A progressive euchre tournament forth? non dancers was held on the stage, and attracted about 30 players. Mr T, H. Hale had charge of this department, and under his capable guidance an enjoyable. and keen competition took place for the valuable prizes offered. The winners in the ladies’ section were Miss C. Taylor first, Mrs Alps second, and Mrs Kappley third. The men’s first prize was won by L. Crann.i with L. R. Hodges a close second,, the third prize falling to L. Wright. Mr R. B, Penlington excelled in his duties as master of ceremonies, being most attentive. The decorations were very pretty, comprising for the most part bunting, bamboo leaves,, lycopodium, wattle, and other greenery, among which a cleverly designed scheme was carried out in green and gold (1 the colours of the club. The electric lights wer.e subdued by large yellow shades. The dainty supper was provided by the club’s lady members, and a band of willing helpers, and needless to say, nothing better could be desired. Mr C. Wells And those who assisted, are to be heartily congratulated on the efficient organisation and success of Ithe evening. It is very pleasing to record the success they met with.
