PLAINS ROADING.
MEETING AT HORAHIA. A well represented meeting was held on Saturday morning last to discuss roading questions. Mr W. McDuff was elected chairman, and said that the meeting was called to ascertain the feeling of the settlers in regard to the construction of concrete or bitumen roads riding. Mr W. G. Hayward gave the county rough estimates of the alternate methods, and said that the Government would liberally subsidise the work; The settlers were all of one mind that they should have permanent roading. ' Considerable discussion arose on the merits of concrete and bitumen. The general opinion was that concrete would be the best, but too expensive, and it would be too long before the job was completed. Mr C. Dale said that the settlers of Piako road had discussed the proposition and had deputed Messrs W. E. G. Willy, White, and 11. Hicks to go into the matter and ascertain the feeling of the settlers in the southern part of the riding. In view of this it was suggested that delegates should be appointed to confer with those already appointed, but it Was decided that a farther meeting should be held in the Ngatea Hall on Saturday next. It was pointed out by Mr Hayward that there would be much, informa'.tio*i on the-subject from engineers in various parts-of the country available at the meeting.
