NETHERTON. THE HALL. The annual meeting of the Netherton Debenture Holders was held in the Netherton Hall on Friday last. In moving the adoption of the bal-ance-sheet the chairman spoke of the sound financial position of the hall. The takings for the year amounted to £9l 17s 4d, and the expenditure was £56 8s 6d, leaving a balance of £3a 8s lOd. The balance in band from 1921-22 was £35 10s '4d, making "the total to date £7O 19s 2d. The. following officers were elected : President, Mr R. H. Heappey; vice-president, Mr C. Stembridge; secretary, Mr T. Vowles; committed Messrs T. and W. Richmond, T. Rice, R. Phillips, T. Johnson, E. Chester, C. Potter, S. J. Laughlin. The committee is seriously considering the possibility of running a weekly picture entertainment as soon as satisfactory arrangements can be made. The work of repainting and renqvating the exterior of the hall is now in hand. NGATEA. TENNIS ASSOCIATION’S BALL. The Hauraki Plains Tennis Association’s first annual ball at Ngatea' on Wednesday .evening was a brilliant success. About sixty couples were present from all parts of. the Plains. The decorations in the hall, carried out in the Association’s colours—green and gold—together with native ' shrubbery, balloons, decorated tennis racquets, etc., were declared to be the best yet. seen in Ngatea, The music by Mr A. Williams’ orchestra was voted excellent. Extras were rendered by Miss Appleby. Dancing was carried on till about 3 a.m. During the supper interval the president of the Association, Mr W. G. Hayward, presented the trophies won during the season. A silver cup, presented by Mr R. A. Laidlaw for competition among clubs on the Plains, was won by the Waitakaruru club with the Turua clubs, the holders during previous season, as run-ners-up. The winners had scored a _ total of 269 games .and had 205 games scored against them. * The Howell Williams Memorial Shield, presented to the Kopu Clubby Mr Albert for competition among clubs on the Plains and district, was captured by Waitakaruru and successfully defended. They become the holders for the season 1923. The . Hayward Shield, presented by the president for competition among “B” grade players,, was also won by Waitakaruru, who scored a total of 169 games and had 145 games scored, against them. The .Kopuarahi C&b . held second position. ; Mr C. W. Harris received the trophies on behalf of the Waitakaruru Club, whose president, Mr R. T. Williams, was absent owing to illness. Mrs C. Scott, of Turua, the winner of the ladies’ section of the handicap tournament, having scored a total of 250 points with 198 points against her, was presented with a medal. Mr Scott responded. s Mr J. L. Brownlee, of Turua, was the winner in the men’s section, with Mr W. E. Murphy, of Hopai, as run-, ner-up. He scored • 492 points and had 362 points scored against him. He was presented with a medal. The recipient briefly responded.
