A very happy event, on Monday afternoon at the residence of the Rev. Janies Paterson, Buller Street, Wellington, was the celebration of the reverend gentleman’s ninety-third birthday (states the Dominion). There was a large gathering of old friends of the veteran Presbyterian minister, who is very g'reatly respected in all parts of New Zealand, his fine service to his Church, and his genial and kindly disposition having made him hosts of friends. He was the recipient of many good wishes and congratulations on having attained such a great age, and with splendid health. A number of cablegrams were received from old friends in Scotland, and many telegrams from others in New Zealand. The youngest guest ait the party was a little great granddaughter, three years of age, the daughter of Mr and Mrs E. A. Porritt, Paeroa. Miss Paterson was present, Mrs B. W. Porritt (Paeroa), M'r W. Paterson (Waipukurau), the Rev. Dr. Kennedy Eliott, Mr Bruce Todd, Mrs Ritchie, Mrs Pope, Miss S. MacGregor, Mrs Moore, and a number, of others. Speeches were made by the Rev. Dr. Elliott and Mr Todd, and and interesting and touching reply was made by Mr Paterson.
