DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was held in the Turua Buildings on Friday last, present : Messrs G. Gray (chairman) R. H. Heappy, D. G. McMillan, J. Mules> R. H. Baker, and the clerk, Mp J. E. Green. , ' BROWN’S DRAIN. Mrs J. H. Brown, Turua, wrote in the hope of interesting the board in her drainage. Her farm was under water at eVery high tide, as the outlet drain was not deep enough and had not been cleaned. Mr Baker said that the farm was considerably drier than his farm, but the land was very low and could not be thoroughly drained. Mr Gray said that the drain had since been cleaned. ‘ Mr Baker suggested a flood-gate on Brown’s drain, as it would be better than in the present position. A gate would cost £25, and would, perhaps, be a cheaper proposition than paying for'cleaning. It was decided that the BcarcPwould consider putting in a flood-gate when funds and weather permitted. The drain through Daily’s could then bd abandoned. ' ORCHARD BAST DRAINAGE. The chairman reported that the of the Orchard East area were contemplating a drainage sys tem of their own, using the Drainage Board’s drains as outlets. The matter of . the new proposed area was then discussed, and members were of the opinion that the Board should take up a firm stand over the matter of bringing the drainage water from oiltside the Board’s area' through - the' Board’s drains unJess the new area paid the wole cost. The Board then went into committed on the'matter. \ ■ TOWERS OUTLET. The chairman reported having put a workman on to. clean, the towers outlet at 5s a. chain. He was io cut only, a channel through the slips at present. Serious slips had occurred near the mouth, and members remarked that it was remarkable the number of slips there had been this year. The chairmans’ action was approved, and he - was grafted authority t~ do all that was necessary in this drain after conferring, with the Lands Drainage Engineer. ; GENERAL BUSINESS. The riding member was authorised to have the Thames Valley oi||et drain deepened. The chairman reported that the contract- far deepening ahe Oparin Road drain had been completed. The clerk reported that he had purchased one ton of English wire for * £3l, less 3% per cent f.o.b. Auckland, and a keg of staples. The distribution was left in the hands of members. . * The clerk was instructed to take steps to collect outstanding rates by applying to the Supreme' Court. The- clerk reported visiting the Valuation Department while in Auckland in regard to the valuation roll. They premised a new ijoil as soon as possible" if they received certain assistance from the Board’s clerk. The clerk was authorised to obtain a new valuation roll from the Valuation Department.
