SUICIDE NEAR KAIHERE.

YOUNG WODfAN SHOOTS HERSELF. A single woman named Lily Winifred Torr, aged 34, who resided: with her brother, Norman J. Torr, farmer, of Road, near Kaihere,- committed suicide on Friday night by shooting herself. Deceased was apparently in her usual good spirit,? up to 7.30 o’clock on Friday evening, when her brother left for a dance at Kaihere. When he returned about 3 a.m. all was quiet, but as he did not see his sister when he arose about 8 a.m. on Saturday morning he looked into henroom and found that she was dead in bed. He asked a neighbour to telephone for a doctor, and about 3 P-m; communicated with the police at Thames from the Ngatea telephone bureau. Dr. Bathgate, of Turua, arrived on the scene' about dusk and 'found that the woman was lying in bed; dead with an old-fashioned snider carbine belonging to her ’ brother -alongside the bed pointing to her,chin. Death had probably been instantaneous. Constable Devereaux, of Kerepeehi, was informed, on Saturday evening, and on learning that the?woman <was dead he communicated with the coroner, Mr Lucas, J.P., of Thames, who arrived on Sunday mopning and held an inquest.. The doctor and the brother gave evidence., and a veridet of suicide was returned. The body was taken to Thames on Sunday afternoon, en route to Auckland to be interred.'. There are several brothers and sisters of the deceased on the Plains, and a sister committed suicide in a turkish bath in Auckland a short time ago.
