TURUA ROADS.

EXPERIMENTAL STRIPS. WORK COMMENCED. Great activity was witnessed on the roads in Turua township pn Thursday. On Hauraki Road preparations were being made for the five-chain experimental strip pf bituminous road. The road had been thoroughly scarified and formed on Wednesday, and yesterday gangs of men were engaged in carting and spreading metal. It is understood that more metal was found on tjie road when scarified than was anticipated, so only four inches of new metal is being spread. On the road alongside the concrete strip from the post office corner to the store the metal was scarified pesterday by the County Council’s road roller and scarifier. The loose metal was then graded off th alt portion into the concrete strip. It is understood that when this is done the clay foundations will be removed and the metal replaced so that the road will have the same camber as the concrete strip, so that water will not lie continually in the middle,, of the road. A much-needed watertable would alsobe formed, and the footpaths will probably be improved. At the wharf scows are busy discharging 'road metal for bofch thef Town Board and the County Council.
