Durirtg the absence of Constable McClinchy on annual holiday Constable J. Olson, of the Waihi Police Station, is in charge at Paeroa. The rainfall in Paeroa for last month, as recorded at the Public Works office, was as follows: A total of 10.5 in of rain fell during th 3 month, the heaviest fall being recorded on Friday, April 20, when 6.15111 fell. Rain fel] on eleven days of the montn. Last month’s rainfall was the heaviest for the month of April since 1914. The wide interest taken in the Thames Valley Power Board’s affairs was evidenced at its meeting at Te Aroha yesterday, when no less than five papers were represented, comprising the Morrinsville Star, Te Arolia News, Waikato Times, Auckland Star, and Hauraki Plains Gazette. At the Warden’s Court yesterday the Maoriland Mines, Ltd., was granted protection for three months from March 12 cm the Maoriland special quartz claim, a water race, and a special site.- The application of T. M. Shore for a water race on Doherty’s Creek was also granted. We have received a copy of the May issue of - “The Ladies’ Mirror.’’ This production is brimful with interesting pictures and reading ma.ttei’, society portraits, wedding groups, children’s photographs, the latest fashions for the season, together with all the usual features of interest to women and the home circle. The first social and dance of the United Ancient Order of Druids, Waikino Lodge, for this season was held on Friday last in the Victoria Hall, Waikino, and proved a success. Mr McSweeney fulfilled the duties of M.C. to the satisfaction of all. The music was supplied by Mr C. Cate' (piano), and Mr Sampson (violin). A euchre tournment took place during the evening, the winners being Mrs F. Hicks and Mr F. Hicks. Mr A. Southberg had charge of the tables. 1 Our readers’ attention is drawn to a special advertisement appearing in tliis issue pertaining to a big reopening sale, which is being conducted by the “Home of Good Value.’’ Mr Gamble has recently purchased the drapery business formerly pwned by Miss Keller in Normanby Road. Existing stocks are to be sold regardless of cost to make room for new and up-to-date goods.* A meeting of the Kerepeehi Sports Association was held on Tuesday evening, Mr A. Chatfield presiding. In regard to a protest by Mq H. Knapp, it was decided to uphold the judge’s decision. The secretary announced that t,he profits from the refreshment booth amounted to about £3O. It was decided to notify members of coming meetings by means of post-cards. It was suggested that tiie annual meeting be held in a few months’ time, as there was a very important matter to be discussed.
