The scow Parotp left Auckland for Paeroa to-day with a full load of cargo. At a special meeting of the Ohineni'iri County/Council held yesterday the resolution authorising the raising of a loan of £llOO, for the purpose of forming and metalling that portion of Frankton Road at present unmetailed and that part of Old Tauranga Road between Pukewer,a and Frankton roads, was confirmed.
The a tention of golfers and others interested is directed to an advertisement appearing in this issue. A working bee will be held to-morrow, when it is hoped a large attendance of members will roll up and lend a hand. The greens are in fair order, but there is a fair amount of work to be done prior tp the opening of the club on the 14 th instant. The following players yvill represent the Paeroa Bowling Club in the contest for the Goldfields Starp at Matamata to-morrow afternoon: F. Pivott, G. H. Taylor, F. J. Wells, and J. Pinder (skip). Duing the month of March,, 1923, 48 cows, 39 steers and heifers, 151 ’sheep, 4'5 lambs, 1 calf* and 11 pigs were slaughtered at the local abattoirs. The s.s. Taniwha is as present laid up for annual overhaul, and the s.s. Waipu has taken up her running hi the Auckland-Paeroa service. At the Ngahina wharf the scow Wnikomi is at present unloading a new dragline dredge for the Public. Works Department. This dredge is an English-built machine, having a 60 : ft. boom, with a bucket of one and a half cubic yards capacity built of l%in steel. In working condition this machine weighs 80 .tons. It mover, from place to place on four caterpillar wheels, each having an endless tread. It is expected that as spun as this machine is assembled it wi'l be used on the construction of the Ohinemuri River stop-bank, commencing in the vicinity of Kaouiti Creek, near the Te Aroha road. It is understood that this is the largest machine of its kind in New Zealand. When in full working order it is capable of doing the work of 150 men. The butter output from the Thames Valley factories for the month of March 407 tpns. The output for the corresponding month last year was 299 tons. Therefore the increase for March this year was 108 tons. It is interesting to note that the butter factory supply was not supplemented by cheese factory separation in March 1922 or 1923. The Rev. W. J. Entjoctt, who h’as been minister of the Paeroa Methodist Church for t,he last four years, Mrs Enticott, anti family are leaving Paeroa next Wednesday for Taumarunui. Farewell services will be held next Sunday, in the morning at the church and in the evening at the Central Theatre af 7 o’clock. The evening service will be followed b.\ the rendering of the oratorio “The Crucifixion.” by Stainer. A farewell gathering is being held in the Centenary Hall on Monday at 8 P.m. The Rev. Enticott has taken an active in terest in all public matters during his stay in Paeroa. and the advertisement in this issue intimates that the public are invited to all the farewell meetings.
