DISTRICT NEWS.
PATITONGA. football. a meeting of the Patetonga Foot, ball Club called for Tuesday evening lapsed owing to the small ‘attendance. The indications are that. Patetonga will not be represented in the Hauraid Plains Rugby Union this season, as, owing t.o the fact that only three matches were played there during the. last two seasons, no interest is taken in the game by other than players, who for their part seem disinclined to join up owing to the heavy travelling expenses entailed. A proposal t.o form a sub jinion, comprising Patetonga, Kaihere, and Tahuna, is receiving much consideration, and it is to be commended, for, while the standard of play may be lowered, as there will be less opportunity of meeting outside teams, the problem of travelling, and the expenses entailed, will be overcome, local interest will be stimulated, and many young players will be encouraged. Should a sub-union be formed, it may be possible to have six teams and have two matches in every three weeks on the home grounds.
