BURGLARY AT WHAREPOA

STORE ENTERED. SAFE REMOVED AND BLOWN OPEN A daring burglary was perpetrated ;; f. Whareppa on Thursday night, when the store was entered and a safe weighing 4cwt removed and taken four miles distant and blown open. Sergeant M fDonnell, of Thames, and Constable McClinchy, of Paeroa, who were communicated with through the railway station (the post office being closed pn account of the holiday) made a search for the missing safe, with the result that they discovered it under some trees four miles away from the stpre. The books and papers were found intact, also cheques to the amount of £6O. The evening’s takings, £l2 in cash, were missing. The safe was removed to the police depot.
