FOOTBALL.
HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY UNION. MEETING AT NGATEiA. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held in the Ngatea Hall on Thursday evening, Mr Costello, president, occupying the. chair. The delegates present were Messrs J. Costello and D. Vincent (Ngatea), C. Hayward and H. Bernie (Waitakaruru), and G. Porleous and G. Gray (Turua). t - The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. The secretary, Mr D. Vincent, then read the balance-sheet, and Mr Hay-wa’-d moved, and Mr Porteous seconded, that the balance-sheet be accepted as read, waiting the approval of the auditor. 141- Costello was again pioposed as president by Mr Porteous. Mr Costello said he was very pleased with the honour, but he did not believe in creating a monopoly in anything, and suggested that others be nominated. Mr Porteous said he would stick to his nomination, which was seconded by Mr Bernie, and Mr Costello was duly elected for the third year in succession. Vice-presidents. —Messrs Bernie, G. Hayward, W. Stretton, R. Stack, N. G. Dent, J. Higgins, H. A. Shaw, R. Regastic, J. Kneebone,, F. Kneebone, N. Rountree, Conner, E. Walton, J. Kidd, P Fisher, J. Taylor, J. M. Thompson,. C. C. Clark, T. Elliott, A. McClean, A. Douglas, H. E Harvey, S. McWaters, G. Garry, J. Spence, H. Waite, D. O’Carroll, C. Miller, G; Porteous, G. Gray, C. Scott, and Dr. Bathgate. The matter of selectors for representative matches was discussed at length. Mr Porteous argued that if only one selector was appointed he could not watch more than one match. After further discussion Mr C. Hayward proposed that three selectors for both junior and senior teams be -appointed, and not more than one be appointed from each district.—-Second-ed by Mr Porteous’ and carried. Messrs C. Hayward, G. Porteous, and D. Vincent were appointed selectors of the seniors and Messrs' Bernie, C. Scott, and J. Nicholson of the juniors. Mr D. Vincent was re elected secretary. , Messrs C. Hayward ,Bernie, and D. Vincent were appointed delegates to the Thames Valley Union. It was resolved that the colours remain the same. It was decided to hold the annual meeting in the last week in March. . Mr Porteous moved that any deficiency in the balance-sheet- be made up by all the clubs in the z union.— Seconded by Mr Bernie and carried. On the motion of Mr Hayward, seconded by Mr Bernie, it was decided that the seniors and juniors travel to the same place the,same. day. It was decided, on the motion ot Mr Hayward, seconded by Mr Gray, that the club matches be commenced on April 14.
It was resolved that matches shall start not later than 2.30 o’clock excepting in exceptional circumstances. On Mr Hayward’s motion, seconded by Mr Bernie, it was resolved that the referee be submitted to the visiting team for approval. It was decided that the selectors be managers of touring (earns. The matter of entertaining was left in the hands of the clubs. On the motion of Mr C. Hayward, seconded by Mr Porteous, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president, and also the secretary, for the manner in Avhich they had carried out theiv duties.
A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Harvey for his courtesy in allowing the bath and dressing room at the Ngatea factory for use of visit,ing teams was carried with acclamation.
On Mr Hayward’s motion, seconded by Mr Gray, the secretary’s action in challenging the Thames Union for the Peace Cup was endorsed. The, date for the next meeting was fixed for Monday week, April 9, and it was decided to notify the Referees’ Association, to that effect, so that they may have theii 1 meeting on the same date.
