TURUA ROADS.
DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL. OFFER OF HELP. A deputation consisting of Messrs P. R. Henry, W. MadgWick, and D. G. McMillan, representing the Southern area of the Turua riding, waited upon the Hauraki Plains County Council in regard tp their reading scheme. They had been appointed an advisory committee, and were present to ascertain if there was any way in which they could help. The clerk reported on the result of the visit to Wellington to raise the loan.' Mr Madgwick said that now the financial position was settled thev wanted to see the work commenced. The chairman explained that rails were already on the ground, and arrangements were in hand for obtaining metal from Puriri Creek and a metal crusher. • Mr McMillan suggested that the supervisor whom it was 'decided to employ should be appointed immediately. The chairman was pf the opinion that it would be better to wait until negotiations were completed. Mr Madgwick said .that a lot of valuable time was being wasted, and that as he could* only be appointed at a county meeting they advocated that the supervisor be appointed now, as there, was much work to be attended to before the metal arrived. Cr. Mayn said the matter of the appointment had been left to the engineer, and if the supervisor was appointed now he woudl relieve the engineer of a lot of work. Cr. Hayward supported. Mr Henry suggested that Mr Cameron be notified when his services would be required. In regard to sleepers for the tramline, Mr Madgwick said that Mr Newman offered kauri timber for sleepers. Mr McMillan asked if it was possible to get a Governnient subsidy. If it could be done, instead of getting ? Turua growl thuy would get Turua’s congratulations. , ‘ ' The chairma® said it might be pos-( s.ible to get a subsidy. Mr Madgwick asked if it was possible to get some metal for the roads for the winter.
The chairman said if would be considered later in the day. After much discussion the matter of the appointment of a supervisor was left, in the hands of the engineer, as decided at a previous meeting.
