OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB

ANNUAL RACE MEETING. GEOFFREY WINS THE CUP. Dull and overcast sky conditions, varied by periods of bright sunshine, and a strong breeze, were the climatic features in evidence on Wednesday, when the first day’s events of he annual racing fixture of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club was held on the Paeroa course. The special trains from Auckland, Thames, Cambridge, and King Country brought many hundreds of patrons to the course. To this complement were added the large numbers who travelled by car from all parts of the district, and the wide patronage from the town and its immediate environs, so that the record attendance figures for this popular fixture must have been nearly reached. It was a big crowd, when at its height, that thronged the stands and lawn enclosures to witness the day’s sport. Patrons were treated to an interestipg racing period. The track was in good order, though a trifle 'hard. The fields were large in both flat and cross-country events, and quality was also in evidence, which caused speculation to take a wide range. Some excellent racing was witnessed, and many close and exciting finishes resulted. Credit is due to the Club’s secretary and his officials for the splendid arrangements made. All classes of the public were thoroughly catered for, greatly adding to the enjoyment of the meeting. When Sans Gene fell in fete Komata Hack Handicap her rider, H. Wiggins, received a severe shaking, and was picked up in a semi-conscious condition.
